Confrontation at Local Retailer Leads to Felony Charges
A routine trip to a Jonesboro Walmart turned into a dangerous encounter on March 29, resulting in the arrest of a local teenager. Jonesboro police officers responded to the retail location after receiving reports of a subject brandishing a weapon in the parking lot. According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim was loading a delivery order into his vehicle when a white SUV driven by the suspect approached. Witnesses reported that the driver initiated a verbal dispute before escalating the situation by pointing a firearm at the victim.
Laser Sight and Death Threats Reported by Witnesses
The victim and a witness provided detailed accounts of the incident to investigators. They alleged that the suspect, later identified as Braylen Luke Jones, aimed a weapon equipped with a functional laser sight directly at the victim’s chest. The witness further claimed that Jones made graphic threats, explicitly stating an intent to kill the victim during the exchange. Law enforcement officials were able to corroborate these accounts by reviewing surveillance footage from the parking lot, which captured the SUV and the suspect's actions.
Suspect Admits to Threats and Brandishing BB Gun
On March 31, Jones appeared at the Jonesboro Police Department for a formal interview regarding the incident. During questioning, Jones reportedly admitted to the verbal altercation and acknowledged that he pointed a Sig Sauer BB gun at the victim. While he denied using specific phrasing reported by the witness, the affidavit states he confessed to saying he would "kill" the victim. Jones defended his actions to investigators by claiming he felt physically threatened during the encounter, though police noted the victim was unarmed and at a distance from the vehicle.
