Targeted Strikes Against Urban Extremism
In a significant escalation of internal security operations, the Nigerian Army has successfully apprehended 53 individuals suspected of criminal activities and extremist affiliations across Plateau State. Reports from "Operations Ensuring Peace" (OPEP) indicate that the surge in arrests occurred within a 24-hour window, focusing on volatile zones within the Jos North and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas. This coordinated effort aims to stabilize the region following recent spikes in urban violence and communal friction.
The Crackdown on 'Sara Suka' and Narcotics Hubs
A major component of the operation involved a high-stakes raid conducted at approximately 1:30 a.m. by troops of Sector 1, supported by the Department of State Services (DSS) and Special Forces. The joint team targeted multiple communities in Jos North, leading to the arrest of 44 suspected members of the "Sara Suka" group—a notorious local extremist cult. Simultaneously, troops from Sector 4 raided known drug hideouts in Angwan Yama and Kasua, Barkin Ladi, arresting nine suspects and seizing quantities of Cannabis sativa along with various electronic items used in coordinated criminal activities.
Recovery of Livestock and Anti-Rustling Success
Beyond urban raids, the military demonstrated its commitment to protecting rural livelihoods by intervening in a livestock theft incident. Troops successfully recovered four cattle stolen from the Lugere Community in Riyom Local Government Area. The recovered animals have been returned to their rightful owner, while intelligence efforts remain active to track and apprehend the rustlers who fled during the military’s arrival.
