Militant Footage Provides First Glimpse Of Displaced Captives
A faction of Boko Haram known as Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad has released a significant propaganda video documenting the status of over 400 civilians. The footage, which surfaced on Thursday, features a masked spokesperson claiming that the abducted residents of Ngoshe are being treated in accordance with religious tenets. While the group insists that the victims are healthy and have not been subjected to physical abuse or rape, the visual evidence serves as the first confirmed proof of life for the massive group since their disappearance from the Gwoza Local Government Area.
Mediators Facilitate Communication Between Abductors And Public
The spokesperson for the insurgent group stated that the production of the video was a direct response to a request from the Borno South Youths Alliance. This organization has emerged as a critical intermediary, working discreetly to establish a dialogue with the leadership of Imam Abu Umaimatul Muhajjir. According to the group’s representative, the footage was intended to clear specific issues raised by the alliance regarding the welfare of the women, children, and few men currently held in an undisclosed forest location.
Victims Detail Conditions While Pleading For State Intervention
During the nearly seven minute recording, several victims were permitted to speak directly to the camera to describe their current environment. One female captive noted that while they are receiving basic medical treatment and food, their psychological distress remains high due to the uncertainty of their future. She specifically highlighted that many children arrived without adequate clothing but have since been provided with basic cover, though she emphasized that the survivors remain deeply worried about relatives who may have perished during the initial military engagements or aerial bombardments.
