Sentencing in Denpasar

The District Court in Denpasar, Bali, concluded a high-profile drug trafficking trial on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Kial Garth Robinson, 29, received an 11-year prison sentence, while his accomplice, 48-year-old Piran Ezra Wilkinson, was sentenced to 9 years. In addition to their jail terms, both men were ordered to pay fines of approximately US$60,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional 190 days of incarceration for each defendant. The ruling marks the end of a legal battle that began with their arrests in late 2025.

The Airport Interception

The case dates back to September 2025, when Robinson was intercepted by customs officers at Ngurah Rai International Airport. During a routine search of his backpack, authorities discovered two packages containing a total of 1.3kg of cocaine. Robinson, who had arrived on a flight from Barcelona, initially told investigators that he was acting on the orders of a handler identified only as "Santos." His instructions were to transport the narcotics to Bali and deliver them to Wilkinson, who had arrived on the island a few days prior to the shipment.

A Multinational Investigation

Following Robinson's confession, Indonesian police conducted a sting operation the next day in the popular tourist district of Canggu, leading to Wilkinson's arrest. Prosecutors established that the two men were friends who lived in Thailand and had specifically met in Barcelona a week before the smuggling attempt to coordinate the logistics. While the defense argued for leniency, the court found the evidence of a coordinated trafficking plot from Europe to Indonesia to be overwhelming.
