A Major Realignment in Imo Politics

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has executed a significant political coup by officially receiving Prince Eze Madumere, a former Deputy Governor of the state, back into its ranks. The reception, held at the party’s secretariat in Owerri on April 25, 2026, also saw the return of Uche Ogbuagu, a former member of the House of Assembly, alongside a host of other influential figures. The National Working Committee (NWC), led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, oversaw the event, describing the return of these seasoned politicians as a "turning point" that reaffirms the party's relevance in the state's competitive political landscape.

Leadership Declares End to Internal Wrangling

Addressing the gathering, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed emphasized that the PDP has successfully moved past its internal disputes. He maintained that the party is now a singular, cohesive unit, barring those he described as being on a "mission to destroy" the organization. The NWC leader assured the returning members of equal treatment, rights, and privileges, urging them to contribute their expertise toward the stability and progress of the party. This sentiment was echoed by State Chairman Austin Nwachukwu, who credited national leaders—specifically Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and Samuel Anyanwu—for acting as the "fatherly figures" who brokered a lasting peace within the party.

Defying the "PDP is Dead" Narrative

Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the PDP, used the occasion to counter claims by political opponents that the party had lost its vitality. "Haters of the party are saying that it is dead, but today’s developments show that PDP is fully alive, active, and focused," Anyanwu declared. He listed several high-profile returnees, including Professor Awuzie, Sir Mike Ejiogu, Vitus Nwoke, and Anthony Odunze, as evidence of the party's growing momentum. According to Anyanwu, the PDP is strategically positioning itself to take over elective positions at both the state and national levels to "reshape the nation’s economy."
