To ensure a peaceful 2026 Easter period, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has authorized a significant reinforcement of the Benue State Police Command. The deployment, announced on Saturday, April 4, by Command Spokesperson DSP Edet Udeme, consists of 14 units of specialized forces and 250 personnel drawn from elite tactical teams. This move is part of a broader national strategy to preemptively address security threats during high-traffic religious festivities.

Composition of the Reinforcement Teams

The specialized units have been mobilized from 16 different Police Mobile Force (PMF) squadrons across the federation. These forces are specifically trained for high-intensity operations and are being paired with 250 personnel from the force's specialized tactical teams. According to DSP Udeme, the influx of these officers is intended to provide the necessary "boots on the ground" to dominate public spaces and deter criminal activities that historically spike during holiday weekends.

Integration with State Command and Hinterland Focus

The newly arrived personnel have already been integrated with the existing tactical teams of the Benue Command and other allied security agencies. A primary focus of the operation is the "hinterland dominance" strategy, which targets remote and vulnerable communities that may be at higher risk of insurgent or bandit activity.
