Commencement of Official Candidate Screening

The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially triggered its internal electoral process by beginning the verification and issuance of nomination and Expression of Interest forms. The exercise, which commenced at the party’s state secretariat in Makurdi on May 2, 2026, serves as a prerequisite for candidates looking to contest the state house of assembly elections. Party officials noted that this stage is essential for establishing the pool of eligible participants before the commencement of the scheduled primaries.

Leadership Calls for Constitutional Compliance

During the opening session, the State Chairman of the APC, Dr. Benjamin Omale, addressed the gathered aspirants regarding the expectations for the pre-election period. Omale urged all contestants to conduct their campaigns and administrative requirements in strict accordance with the party’s constitution and established guidelines. He emphasized that the leadership is committed to maintaining a transparent process and ensuring a level playing field for all individuals seeking the party's ticket.

Financial Obligations and Payment Protocols

James Ornguga, the state organizing secretary and Chairman of Organizing Secretaries in Nigeria, provided a detailed briefing to aspirants on the technical requirements for form acquisition. According to Ornguga, all payments for the nomination and Expression of Interest forms must be deposited directly into the account of the party’s national secretariat. Furthermore, aspirants are mandated to clear four years of outstanding party dues and settle all other financial obligations at the state level before their documentation can be processed.
