The Dismantling of a Houston Conversion Hub

Federal authorities have concluded a significant chapter in a multi-year narcotics investigation with the sentencing of Andres Reyes-Morales to 12 years in prison. U.S. District Judge Alfred H. Bennett handed down the 144-month term following the defendant's earlier guilty plea to conspiracy charges involving the intent to distribute methamphetamine. Brian Leardo, the Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Houston Division, noted that Reyes-Morales functioned as a critical node in a transnational criminal organization. The 26-year-old, who was residing illegally in the Houston area, was not merely a low-level dealer but served as a conversion lab operator, a role essential for processing bulk narcotics into consumer-ready forms.

Undercover Operations Reveal Smuggling Network

The investigation into the trafficking cell began in November 2022, when federal agents identified the group's methodology for moving illicit substances across the border. According to court records, the organization specialized in the transit of methamphetamine from Mexico through South Texas corridors, eventually terminating in the Houston market. During the course of a strategic undercover operation, law enforcement officers successfully negotiated the purchase of approximately five kilograms of methamphetamine directly from Reyes-Morales. This transaction provided the necessary evidence to link the defendant to the broader logistical framework of the transnational syndicate.

Coordinated Deliveries and Internal Logistics

Reyes-Morales did not work in isolation, instead facilitating a network of couriers to manage the physical movement of the drugs. Prosecutors highlighted his coordination with Moices Moreno-Marin and Francisco Reyes Solorzano-Duarte to finalize various narcotic deliveries across the region. These facilitators ensured that the methamphetamine processed in the Houston-based conversion labs reached its intended destinations. Both Moreno-Marin and Solorzano-Duarte, also Mexican nationals, have already been sentenced to 36 and 54 months respectively for their participation in the conspiracy, reflecting their roles as subordinates within the hierarchy managed by Reyes-Morales.
