Strategic Targeting of Naval Infrastructure

In a formal statement released via Al-Manar TV, Hezbollah announced that its "Islamic Resistance" fighters utilized precision missiles to strike the Ashdod Naval Base located at the city’s southern port. The group framed the operation as a direct response to what it termed "repeated Israeli violations" of the standing regional truce and the ongoing aerial bombardment of Beirut. By targeting a major naval hub nearly 75 miles from the Lebanese border, Hezbollah has signaled its capability and willingness to strike high-value Israeli military assets deep within the country’s coastal heartland.

IDF Interception and Early Warning Success

The IDF confirmed that a single missile was launched from Lebanon toward the southern coastal city of Ashdod at approximately 1:25 a.m. Friday. For the first time during this conflict, the Home Front Command issued an early warning alert roughly two minutes before the impact was neutralized, providing civilians with expanded time to reach shelters. The missile was successfully intercepted by the Arrow or David’s Sling defense array, with no direct hits or shrapnel-related injuries reported in the port area. Debris from the interception did, however, trigger sirens as far north as Tel Aviv and surrounding central Israeli towns.

Retaliation for "Black Wednesday" Beirut Strikes

Hezbollah’s leadership has explicitly linked the Ashdod attack to the massive Israeli air campaign conducted earlier this week, which resulted in the deaths of over 300 people in Lebanon. The group maintains that while they have attempted to adhere to the spirit of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire, continued IDF operations in the capital and southern suburbs necessitate a military response. By striking at a depth and scale not seen in previous months, Hezbollah aims to establish a "balance of terror" that discourages Israel from further escalation in Lebanese urban centers.
