A Birthday Dedicated to Compassion and Social Equity

In a departure from traditional political celebrations, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State marked his 62nd birthday on April 25, 2026, by visiting the Divine Children’s Home in Atan Offot, Uyo. The Governor used the occasion to roll out a comprehensive welfare intervention designed to integrate vulnerable children into mainstream society. Describing service to humanity as his primary source of fulfillment, Eno stated that the visit was intended to reinforce the message that a child's background should not act as a barrier to their ultimate destiny.

Automatic Employment and Vocational Empowerment

The Governor’s intervention included significant career milestones for those working within the state's care system. He directed that 22 volunteer caregivers and four additional staff members be granted automatic employment within the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service. Furthermore, 15 beneficiaries were selected for advanced vocational training at the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre and the Dakadda Skills Acquisition Centre. Upon completion of their programs, these individuals will receive starter packs to facilitate independent entrepreneurial ventures.

Educational Advancement and Housing Solutions

A standout feature of the birthday gesture was the announcement of an overseas postgraduate scholarship for Abigail Okon Edet, a beneficiary of the orphanage system. Recognizing the need for long-term stability, Governor Eno also directed that two graduates already employed in the civil service be provided with dedicated housing. This move aligns with a broader policy shift to relocate older beneficiaries to independent accommodation outside of the traditional orphanage system, fostering a sense of autonomy and community reintegration.
