A Strategic Transformation of the Rivers Infrastructure Network
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has confirmed that the 33.5 kilometer dual carriageway connecting Elele to Omoku is on track for a May inauguration. During a comprehensive inspection tour on Wednesday, the governor assessed the progress of the route, which traverses Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas. According to the governor, the project represents a signature achievement for his administration, specifically aimed at modernizing the state's transport architecture to facilitate smoother movement for both residents and commercial interests.
Securing a Notorious Transit Corridor
Beyond the engineering aspects of the road, the project is being hailed as a major victory for public safety in the region. Historically, the corridor has been plagued by incidents of kidnapping and various violent crimes that took advantage of the previously dilapidated road conditions. Governor Fubara noted that the new infrastructure will allow security agencies to respond more effectively to threats, effectively turning what used to be a death trap into a safe passage. This shift is expected to restore confidence among travelers who had long abandoned the route due to these persistent risks.
Unlocking the Potential of the Gas City
The economic implications of the Elele–Omoku Road are particularly significant given its termination point in Omoku, which is widely recognized as the state’s industrial hub for gas production. By providing a high quality dual carriageway, the administration intends to unlock the dormant economic potential of the Gas City and its surrounding agricultural communities. The governor highlighted that the improved logistics will reduce the cost of doing business and encourage new investments into the energy and manufacturing sectors located along the corridor.
