Strategic Infrastructure As A Metric For Governance

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has asserted that his administration’s physical projects will serve as the primary evidence of his commitment to high quality leadership in Rivers State. During an extensive inspection of the Creek Road Market in Port Harcourt, the governor highlighted that the reconstruction efforts are designed to be more than just commercial hubs. According to Fubara, these interventions are carefully conceived to deliver long term value and will act as a lasting testament to his government’s focus on sustainable development.

Resolving Urban Gridlock Through Market Expansion

The decision to overhaul the Creek Road section was born out of a direct conflict between infrastructure development and unregulated trading activities. Governor Fubara explained that ongoing road construction in the old Port Harcourt Township was being significantly hindered by traders who had spilled onto the streets due to a lack of adequate facilities. By building a modern, well organized market, the government intends to restore order to the transport corridors while providing a more comfortable and dignified space for seafood commerce.

Engineering Challenges In Sectional Construction

The redevelopment project has been strategically divided into three distinct phases, labeled Sections A, B, and C. While work is currently progressing on Section A and preparing to launch in Section B, the third phase has presented unique geological difficulties. Technical inspections revealed that Section C was situated on a former borrow pit, rendering the soil unstable for immediate building. Consequently, the site is undergoing a rigorous process of excavation and sand filling to ensure the foundation can support the upcoming structure.
