Revitalizing Abandoned Regional Development Projects
The Bayelsa State government has successfully taken over and completed the Polaku coastal road and bridge project, which had remained stagnant under the Niger Delta Development Commission for over a decade and a half. Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Moses Teibowe, noted that the intervention was essential to fulfilling the developmental agenda of Governor Douye Diri. Although the road is currently in active use by the public, it remains on a list of high profile projects awaiting an official commissioning ceremony to mark its formal integration into the state's transport grid.
Drastic Reductions In Commuter Travel Times
Strategic investments in new link roads have fundamentally altered the logistics of moving goods and people within the Yenagoa axis. Previously, commuters traveling from Sabagreia were forced to navigate a 21 kilometer route to reach the East-West Road before heading toward the state capital. Under the new infrastructure framework, travelers can now reach Onopa from the LNG junction in less than five minutes. This efficiency has streamlined the movement of services and provided a significant boost to the local economy by lowering transportation hurdles.
Expanding The New Yenagoa City Infrastructure
The administration’s commitment to urban expansion is visible in the construction of multiple dual carriageways within the new Yenagoa City GRA. Specifically, Roads 3, 4, 5, and 6 have reached full completion, though they are currently awaiting formal inauguration before being fully opened to public traffic. These projects, alongside the Road 1 link in the LNG axis, represent a bold vision for growth intended to modernize the state's administrative and residential hubs while providing superior connectivity to the rest of the coastal region.
