Good Samaritan Fatally Pushed Down Stairs While Intervening In River North Altercation

A 35 year old man died after being pushed down stairs while trying to stop a fight at a River North business. Charges are pending against one suspect.

Fatal Intervention at River North Business

The incident occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. at 110 W. Hubbard St., a location known to house a nightclub and a restaurant. According to the Chicago Police Department, a 35 year old man observed a physical altercation between another male and a group of individuals. In an effort to de-escalate the situation, the victim attempted to intervene. During the struggle, a man involved in the initial fight allegedly pushed the victim, causing him to fall down a flight of stairs.

Medical Response and Emergency Care

Following the fall, the unidentified victim was found unresponsive. First responders arrived shortly after and transported the man to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of the trauma team, he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death and confirm the victim's identity once family members have been notified.

Legal Status and Law Enforcement Action

Chicago police confirmed that an individual was taken into custody in connection with the push. As of Monday afternoon, formal charges remain pending.
