The Integrity of Party Lines

Gabriel Suswam, the former Governor of Benue State, has issued a stern rebuke to politicians attempting to operate across multiple party lines simultaneously. During an interview on ARISE News on Monday, Suswam argued that political integrity requires standing firmly within a chosen platform. He specifically targeted individuals who remain within the All Progressives Congress (APC) while participating in the internal meetings of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that such actions should disqualify them from seeking elective office. "If you are putting one leg in and one leg out, it means you can’t be relied upon," Suswam stated.

Defending the Realignment to APC

The former governor also addressed his recent departure from the PDP, describing his move to the APC as a strategic and philosophical realignment rather than a pursuit of personal gain. Suswam explained that his decision was heavily influenced by the shifting political leanings of his constituents in Benue State. He noted that his people have come to believe in the principles of the current administration, and as a leader, he could not remain an exception to their collective will.

Focus on the Senate

Looking ahead to his personal political future, Suswam provided clarity on his ambitions for the next election cycle. He explicitly ruled out a return to the governorship or any other office besides the legislature. "The only election that I would contest now is the Senate election," he confirmed. This declaration positions him as a major contender within the APC's Benue wing, adding further weight to the party's efforts to consolidate power in the North Central region.
