The State Secretariat Reclaims Authority

The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has moved to assert administrative control over the party's electoral roadmap. In an official statement released on April 11, 2026, the party clarified that no directives have been issued to begin zoning arrangements for any political offices. This announcement serves as a formal rebuttal to reports suggesting that the party had already sanctioned regional power sharing structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Suspension of Local Government Activities

According to Benedict Yawe, the State Publicity Secretary, the party has observed with concern that several local government areas have already initiated their own zoning exercises. The State Working Committee has labeled these activities as unauthorized and has explicitly urged all stakeholders to suspend such moves immediately. The party leadership maintains that any decision regarding the distribution of political offices must originate from the state secretariat to ensure uniformity and legality.

Adherence to Constitutional Protocols

The APC leadership emphasized that all political engagements within the 23 local government areas of Benue must strictly follow the party’s established constitution. This includes mandatory consultations with recognized lead pointmen and the respective local government party chairmen. By reinforcing these procedural requirements, the State Working Committee aims to prevent fragmented decision making that could lead to internal friction or legal challenges during the primary season.
