Defiance Against Parallel Party Leadership in Plateau
The political landscape in Plateau State has been upended by a sharp rebuke from former Governor David Jonah Jang regarding the legitimacy of recent internal elections. According to statements released by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, the former governor has categorized a parallel congress held on March 17 as a fraudulent exercise. This assembly, orchestrated by a faction aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, resulted in the naming of Peter Tongshep as a rival chairman. Jang maintains that such maneuvers are the work of individuals seeking to destabilize the party’s long standing dominance in the region.
The Legitimacy of the Dabo Administration
Central to this dispute is the recognition of Chief Raymond Dabo, who secured the chairmanship during a congress in October 2025. Jang insists that the Dabo led executive committee was established through a transparent process monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission. According to the former senator, there was never a legal or structural vacuum that necessitated a second vote. By upholding the results of the 2025 congress, Jang is attempting to shield the state chapter from the broader fragmentation currently plaguing the national organization.
Accusations of External Interference and Sabotage
The rhetoric surrounding this internal split has grown increasingly pointed, with Jang accusing the Wike faction of collaborating with undemocratic forces from outside the state. In his view, these actions are specifically designed to discredit the party’s standing and create a false narrative of institutional collapse. According to Jang, these self seeking figures are prioritizing personal power over the collective health of the political movement. He argues that the existing State Working Committee remains unbroken and fully operational despite the noise generated by the rival group.
