Elder Statesman Rebuts Claims of Marital Involvement in Estate Dispute

Senator Jim Nwobodo, the former Governor of old Anambra State, has formally addressed allegations surrounding the demolition of a property under construction within his private estate in Enugu. Nwobodo clarified that his wife, Pat, was not the architect of the demolition as claimed by the developer, Basil Ogbuanu. Instead, the Senator characterized the event as a necessary response to unauthorized activity on land he has owned since 1976. He emphasized that the dispute is a matter of administrative and legal compliance rather than a personal vendetta led by his spouse.

Origins of the Property Conflict and Historical Land Recovery Efforts

The root of the contention dates back several decades to when Nwobodo acquired the land under the corporate name Linkana Hotels. The Senator explained that his transition into governance in 1979 led him to prioritize public service over private business, during which time portions of his assets were allegedly mismanaged or sold without his consent. Upon his eventual return to private life, Nwobodo sought to recover the remaining fraction of his holdings. He alleges that Ogbuanu and a relative attempted to fraudulently secure titles to portions of the estate despite repeated notifications that the land was undergoing a government mandated recertification process.

Escalation of Tensions and the Alleged Detention Incident in January

The administrative disagreement reportedly turned into a physical confrontation on January 16, 2026, when Mrs. Nwobodo visited the Patson Estate alongside a professional team. According to the Senator's account, the group found the estate gates locked and was subsequently confronted by men acting under Ogbuanu’s instructions. Nwobodo detailed a tense standoff where his wife and her colleagues were allegedly prevented from leaving the premises. During this period, a police officer accompanying the inspection team was reportedly assaulted, leading Mrs. Nwobodo to call for emergency law enforcement intervention to secure their rescue.
