Technical Analysis of the Victim's Vehicle

The second day of proceedings at the Macon County Courthouse focused heavily on the forensic processing of Aniah Blanchard’s Honda CR-V. A former corporal with the Montgomery Police Department’s crime scene bureau testified to finding blood pools on the carpet, a fired shell casing, and a backpack inside the car. The witness also noted a liquid potentially a cleaning agent dripping from the glovebox and a strong odor of hand sanitizer on a door panel, suggesting an attempt to compromise the scene.

Defense Challenges Forensic Links

During cross examination, defense attorneys highlighted the absence of direct physical evidence connecting Yazeed to the interior of the vehicle. The investigator confirmed that no fingerprints of value belonging to the defendant were recovered from the car. The defense also questioned the witness about two condoms and a "gray pubic hair" found at the scene, noting that these items were never definitively linked to Yazeed via DNA testing. The witness maintained that her role was limited to tasks requested by the lead agency, the Auburn Police Department, and that she had not reviewed final forensic reports.

Witnesses Describe Early Morning Encounter

The prosecution called two residents of a west Montgomery home who encountered Yazeed between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on October 24, 2019, just hours after Blanchard was last seen. A witness, who was a high school student at the time, testified that a man she later identified as Yazeed rang their doorbell appearing "dirty and barefoot." She recalled him asking her grandfather for a ride while a black SUV sat idling outside with its taillights on.
