Administration Rebuts Political Critics Amid Rapid Urban Renewal
The Edo State Government has issued a robust defense of its developmental trajectory, asserting that the last 18 months under Governor Monday Okpeholo have seen a transformation in public infrastructure. During a press briefing in Benin City, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Prince Kassim Afegbua, challenged detractors to acknowledge the tangible progress made in addressing long standing systemic decay. Afegbua dismissed recent organized protests as the work of uncredited individuals, maintaining that the administration remains undeterred in its mission to overhaul the state's transport and social service networks.
Aggressive Expansion of State Transport Infrastructure
Central to the government’s progress report is a series of high profile road and bridge projects aimed at easing traffic congestion in the state capital. Afegbua confirmed that construction is currently aggressive on the Ramat Park and Adesuwa Junction flyovers, alongside the total reconstruction of Ekewan Road. Furthermore, inter, city mobility is reportedly improving as the Ekpoma–Uromi route nears completion. Despite the early arrival of seasonal rains, the Ministry of Works has reportedly fast, tracked maintenance along the critical Benin–Ekpoma–Auchi axis to ensure uninterrupted transit for commuters and commerce.
Education Reform and Substantial Civil Service Growth
The education sector has undergone a significant physical and personnel facelift, with the administration reporting the renovation of 80 public schools to date. These facilities, which were previously described as dilapidated, have been outfitted with new roofing and essential furniture. To support this physical expansion, the state has successfully recruited over 6,000 new teachers. Afegbua noted that this influx of educators is a direct response to the inherited personnel shortages, aimed at stabilizing the state's primary and secondary learning environments.
