Allegations of a Calculated Institutional Failure

The internal crisis within the African Democratic Congress has intensified following serious allegations from Dumebi Kachikwu, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate. In a television appearance on ARISE NEWS, Kachikwu asserted that a faction led by former Senate President David Mark inherited a party already entangled in legal disputes and proceeded to deliberately worsen its condition. He argued that the group’s actions suggest a clear agenda to fail, claiming they moved into the organization with the objective of dismantling its existing administrative framework from the outset.

Displacement of Elected State Executives

A central point of Kachikwu’s grievance involves the alleged use of ad hoc committees to bypass the party’s constitutional leadership. He claimed that the David Mark faction introduced these temporary bodies to take over the specific functions and responsibilities of elected state executive committees. This move, according to Kachikwu, was a strategic effort to displace established party structures and install preferred individuals across various states. He reported receiving numerous complaints from party members nationwide who claimed they were pushed out of their legitimate positions without any adherence to due process.

The "Kangaroo Convention" and Judicial Scrutiny

The legitimacy of the party’s recent convention was a major focus of Kachikwu’s critique, as he referenced specific interactions during court proceedings. He alleged that while the convention was taking place, a judge questioned the party’s legal representative about whether such an exercise was actually being conducted. According to Kachikwu, the lawyer denied that a convention was in progress. This discrepancy between the party's actions and its legal representations reportedly led the judge to label the event a "kangaroo convention," a term Kachikwu used to underscore the lack of legal standing for the faction's activities.
