Government and Private Sector Collaboration Enhances Educational Access in Oginibo
A strategic partnership between the Delta State Commissioner for Works, Izeze Rume Reuben, and FOOSTODEY Associates has provided a critical financial lifeline to 65 students at Oginibo Secondary School. By covering the full cost of the National Examination Council (NECO) registration, the sponsors have ensured that these final year candidates can participate in the upcoming senior secondary certificate examinations. This initiative specifically targets students from Oginibo and its surrounding communities, focusing on restoring academic opportunities that were previously hindered by economic constraints and administrative deactivations.
Restoration of Examination Center Status After Years of Inactivity
The sponsorship follows a year long effort to reactivate the NECO examination centre at the school, which had been non-functional for an extended period. The process began in 2025 when the Commissioner’s office engaged with the zonal NECO authorities to conduct a formal assessment of the facility. After meeting the rigorous standards set by the council, the school was granted approval to host examinations once again. This structural victory served as the catalyst for the current financial intervention, as the Commissioner sought to ensure that the newly restored centre would be utilized by a full cohort of local students.
Significant Financial Commitment to Support Rural Parental Resilience
The total investment for this educational support reached over 2.2 million Naira, with each individual student’s registration fee priced at 33,850 Naira. During a formal presentation to the beneficiaries, Tisha Ejekanshe Matthew, representing the sponsors, emphasized that the funds were intended to alleviate the severe economic pressures currently facing rural parents. Matthew urged the students to view this gesture as a challenge to achieve academic excellence, encouraging them to form study groups and maintain a disciplined focus as they prepare for the milestone assessment.
