A Lethal Confrontation Over a Disputed Package

The killing of Mene Ogidi, a 28,year,old upcoming artist, has ignited a national conversation regarding police conduct in Delta State. According to reports from activist Harrison Gwamnishu, Ogidi was intercepted by law enforcement on April 26 after picking up a parcel from a garage at the request of a friend. Upon searching the package, officers discovered a firearm, an item the victim claimed to have no prior knowledge of. Witnesses and video evidence suggest that despite Ogidi’s pleas for mercy and his expressed willingness to lead the police to the actual sender, the situation escalated into a fatal shooting.

Allegations of a Targeted Execution and Cover Up

In a detailed follow,up, Gwamnishu alleged that the shooting was not a procedural error but a deliberate attempt to silence the victim. The activist identified the shooter as ASP Nuhu Usman, suggesting that the officer may have had prior knowledge of the weapon delivery. Gwamnishu argued that by killing Ogidi while he was actively offering to cooperate and expose the real culprits, the officers involved effectively ended a vital line of investigation. The victim's family had initially declared him missing, only discovering his death days later after the incident began circulating on social media.

Institutional Silence Broken by Viral Evidence

The timing of the official police response has come under heavy scrutiny. Although the shooting occurred several days prior, the Delta State police command only released a statement and confirmed an arrest after graphic video footage of the encounter went viral. Gwamnishu emphasized that without the courageous act of the bystander who recorded the event, the authorities might have remained silent on the matter. The activist credited the public's digital outcry as the primary catalyst for the current movement toward transparency and accountability.
