Midnight Terror in Madagali
The peace of Madagali Local Government Area in Adamawa State was shattered on Tuesday night as unidentified gunmen invaded the Kirshingha and Shuwari communities. Eyewitness accounts describe a chaotic scene beginning around midnight, with attackers shooting sporadically and systematically setting residential buildings on fire. The local population was caught off guard, with many forced to flee into nearby bushes as their livelihoods were razed. The scale of the property damage is significant, with several families now displaced by the inferno.
Casualties and Police Response
SP Suleiman Yahya-Nguroje, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, confirmed the incident at the headquarters in Yola. While the exact death toll is still being verified, preliminary reports indicate that several residents lost their lives in the gunfire or the resulting fires. Numerous others are currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at local medical facilities. The police have deployed additional tactical units to the area to prevent further incursions and to begin the grim task of forensic documentation and victim identification.
Governor Fintiri Vows Decisive Action
Governor Umaru Fintiri reacted swiftly to the news, issuing a strong statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou. The Governor labeled the attack an act of terrorism designed to undermine the state’s recent gains in peace and stability. "We have defeated this before, and we are determined to do it again," Fintiri stated, emphasizing that his administration will not tolerate any group that threatens the lives of Adamawa citizens. He assured the public that the government "has their back" and will provide all necessary support to the affected communities.
