Annual Crime Statistics And Prosecution Overview
The Police Command in Cross River has released its comprehensive annual performance report, revealing that 412 cases were charged to court between January and December 2025. ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the command's spokesperson, disclosed these figures on Wednesday in Calabar. During the period under review, the command managed a total of 1,142 recorded cases, which led to the arrest of 1,390 suspects. Out of the total cases prosecuted, the command secured 31 convictions, while 26 cases were officially closed.
Prevalence Of Property Crimes And Theft
Theft and various forms of stealing emerged as the most significant security challenge in the state, with 444 recorded cases in 2025. This category saw the highest volume of law enforcement activity, resulting in 493 arrests. Of these, 175 cases were charged to court, yielding 24 convictions. Currently, 236 theft cases remain pending in various courts. Similarly, "offences against properties" accounted for 83 cases and 87 arrests, with 28 of those reaching the prosecution stage and two resulting in convictions.
Violent Crimes And Offences Against Persons
The report detailed a significant number of violent crimes, including 63 cases of murder and 156 "offences against persons." For murder specifically, 92 suspects were arrested, and 34 cases have been charged to court. Assault also remains a recurring issue, with 109 reported cases and 142 arrests. Despite 25 assault cases being charged to court, only two convictions were secured within the year, highlighting a high volume of 74 pending cases in this category.
