Forecasted Temperature Spikes and Regional Hotspots
According to IMN Director Welmer Stolz, Costa Rica should prepare for temperature anomalies ranging from 0.5°C to 1.0°C above historical norms. The Guanacaste province is projected to be the epicenter of this heatwave, exacerbating the already intense dry-season conditions. For residents, this means increased home cooling costs and a higher risk of heat-related health issues, while for the environment, it signals a dangerous spike in wildfire potential.
Significant Rainfall Deficits
The IMN has provided a detailed timeline for projected precipitation shortages across 2026:
April – June: 15% to 20% deficit
July – August: 10% to 20% deficit
