Strategic Asset Acquisition to Modernize Mozambican Port Infrastructure
CFM Logistics has finalized the acquisition of a specialized harbor tug from Uzmar Shipyard, marking a significant investment in Mozambique’s maritime support capabilities. The newly delivered vessel, christened Messalo, is slated for deployment at the Port of Nacala, a critical gateway for regional and international trade. This move reflects a broader effort by the logistics provider to modernize its fleet in response to the growing demand for efficient ship handling and docking services within the nation’s port complexes.
Turkish Shipbuilding Excellence Meets Canadian Engineering Standards
The construction of the Messalo was carried out at Uzmar’s facility near Istanbul, where it was designated as hull number NB-175. The tug was built according to the RAmparts 2500W design, a globally recognized blueprint developed by the naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. The delivery ceremony, held on March 6, 2026, served as a formal handover between the Turkish shipbuilders and the Mozambican logistics firm, highlighting the international collaboration required to produce high performance maritime hardware.
Technical Specifications Optimized for Heavy Escort and Manoeuvring
Measuring 25 meters in length with a beam of 12 meters, the Messalo is engineered for stability and power during complex harbor maneuvers. The vessel is equipped with two 1,900 kW four stroke diesel engines, which generate a substantial bollard pull of approximately 75 tonnes. This power allows the tug to reach a maximum speed of 13 knots, providing the necessary force to guide large commercial ships safely into their berths under various sea conditions.
