Rehabilitating Vital Arteries for Grassroots Economic Growth

The Boripe Local Government Council has officially launched an extensive road grading exercise designed to reconnect isolated rural communities with major trade hubs. Led by Chairman Sikiru Odebunmi, the project kicked off in the Ofa Ataba community of Iragbiji, targeting routes that serve as the primary lifelines for local farmers. According to Odebunmi, the initiative is a response to the urgent need for infrastructure that supports agricultural productivity, ensuring that produce can be transported from the fields to the markets without the prohibitive logistical hurdles that have plagued the region for years.

Ending Decades of Infrastructure Neglect in Ofa Ataba

The current intervention marks a significant turning point for residents who have faced nearly twenty years of total road abandonment. Chairman Odebunmi highlighted the severity of the decay, noting that even motorcycle travel had become a difficult task for the hundreds of families living in the three villages connected by the Ofa Ataba route. By deploying heavy machinery to grade these paths, the local government intends to restore basic mobility to over 400 households, allowing for a more dignified standard of living and immediate access to essential services that were previously out of reach.

Broad Geographic Scope Covers Five Major Regional Towns

While the project began in Iragbiji, the council executives have committed to a wider rollout that will encompass five major towns and hundreds of smaller rural settlements across the Boripe local government area. Odebunmi emphasized that the council is predominantly composed of farming populations who rely almost entirely on these earth roads for their livelihoods. This systematic approach to grading is intended to ensure that no community is left behind, creating a synchronized network of improved transport corridors that will benefit the entire local government area’s economy.
