Internal Friction Over Governor’s Potential Defection

The Bauchi State All Progressives Congress caucus has launched a formal protest against an alleged plan by the party’s national leadership to admit Governor Bala Mohammed. Following a strategic meeting in Abuja, the caucus leader, Senator Sama’ila Dahuwa of Bauchi North, declared that the group unequivocally rejects the governor’s entry. The primary grievance centers on Mohammed’s history of public dissent regarding the policies of the President Bola Tinubu administration. According to the caucus, these past comments have fueled division and acrimony, making his potential membership a threat to current party unity and credibility.

Lack of Reconciliation and Formal Apology Cited

Senator Dahuwa highlighted that the governor has yet to retract his public attacks against the presidency or the APC’s institutional integrity. The caucus firmly holds that without a formal apology or visible efforts at reconciliation, admitting the governor would be detrimental to the party’s electoral prospects in Bauchi State. Furthermore, the group condemned the national leadership’s failure to consult local stakeholders on a matter of such high political importance. The caucus argued that this lack of inclusion is inconsistent with internal democracy and signaled their intent to demand strict adherence to established party structures.

Pro-Defection Stalwarts Label Opposition as Selfish

In a sharp counter-narrative, APC chieftain Comrade Aliyu Ilelah has dismissed the caucus's rejection as the work of self-centered politicians. Addressing reporters in Bauchi, Ilelah alleged that the opposition to Governor Mohammed is borne out of bitterness rather than the collective success of the party. He argued that it is disrespectful to both the national leadership and the President to close doors against a governor while the presidency is actively reaching out to him. Ilelah warned that such exclusionary tactics could endanger President Tinubu’s re-election chances in 2027 by creating unnecessary friction at the state level.
