Financial Fraud Investigation in Worthington
Law enforcement officials in Nobles County have escalated their search for a South Dakota man allegedly involved in a high value check fraud scheme. Dominic Johuel Johnson is charged with felony possession of stolen or counterfeit checks following an investigation that began in July 2025. According to Worthington Police reports, a victim came forward to report that several illegitimate checks had been cashed against their account. Investigators determined that while one of the checks used was authentic, two others were counterfeit.
Evidence Gathered from Financial Institutions
The investigation utilized a combination of bank records and physical identification to link Johnson to the transactions. According to court documents, the suspect allegedly cashed the checks at three separate locations, totaling $10,650.90. In each instance, Johnson reportedly utilized his South Dakota driver’s license as a form of identification. Police have since obtained copies of the processed checks, the identification used, and surveillance footage from the banks involved, which allegedly confirms Johnson's presence during the transactions.
Interstate Cooperation and Linked Theft Reports
The Worthington Police Department coordinated with authorities in Brookings County, South Dakota, to further the investigation. During this collaboration, officials discovered that Johnson is also a suspect in multiple theft cases within the Brookings area. Information regarding the suspect’s vehicle matched across both jurisdictions, suggesting a pattern of activity spanning the state line. This interstate cooperation has been a mechanical necessity for tracking the suspect's movements across the region.
