The August 2025 Crash and Emergency Response
The incident occurred late on the night of August 9, 2025, on a county road in Greene County. According to the Arkansas State Police, Summitt was operating a Can-Am Defender UTV with Devon Young as a passenger when the vehicle left the roadway and entered a ditch. In an attempt to recover, Summitt reportedly overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross the road and enter the opposite ditch. The erratic movement ejected Young from the vehicle, causing severe internal injuries.
Summitt initially contacted 911 but reportedly ignored the operator's instructions not to move the victim. Instead, he terminated the call and loaded the unconscious Young back into the UTV to leave the scene. A second emergency call was placed nearly 45 minutes later from a residence in Delaplaine, where EMTs found Young in cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital.
Investigation and Toxicology Findings
Following the crash, investigators executed several search warrants for Summitt's blood and mobile records. Toxicology reports from the Arkansas State Crime Lab later revealed that Summitt had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.188% more than double the legal limit along with the presence of THC. The medical examiner confirmed that Young died from multiple blunt-force injuries to the chest.
Evidence gathered at the scene and from the vehicle supported witness testimony that Summitt appeared highly intoxicated and "agitated" during the crisis. Blood swabs taken from the UTV’s dashboard and exterior doors, as well as recovered personal items scattered along the road, indicated that the victim may have fallen from the vehicle a second time during Summitt's unauthorized transport.
