Internal Disciplinary Measures Following Legal Confrontation

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has taken decisive action against one of its prominent members, Fubara Dagogo, following a period of escalating internal friction. The Ward 4 Executive Committee in Bonny Local Government Area officially ratified Dagogo’s suspension, citing a series of actions deemed detrimental to the party’s unity. According to the committee, the decision was necessitated by Dagogo’s choice to pursue litigation against the party’s upcoming national convention, a move viewed by local leadership as a direct violation of established organizational protocols. This suspension marks a significant fracture within the regional wing of the party as it prepares for high level leadership transitions.

The Financial And Administrative Roots Of The Dispute

The core of the conflict centers on Dagogo’s failed bid to contest the position of National Vice Chairman for the South South zone. Dagogo alleged that despite paying a mandatory N5.1 million fee for nomination forms, the party’s administrative machinery intentionally withheld the necessary documentation required to formalize his candidacy. In response to what he characterized as systemic marginalization, he approached a Federal High Court in Abuja to seek a suspension of the zonal congress. According to the legal filings, Dagogo is demanding N100 million in damages, asserting that his exclusion from the electoral process was both unjust and a violation of his rights as a fee paying aspirant.

Constitutional Breaches Cited By Ward Leadership

The leadership of Ward 4 has framed Dagogo’s legal strategy as a source of significant embarrassment to the party’s public image. Ward Chairman Richard Ibani and Secretary Donald Jumbo, alongside 21 other executive members, signed the resolution confirming the indefinite suspension. The committee specifically invoked Article 21.2 of the 2022 APC Constitution, which outlines strict penalties for conduct that brings the party into ridicule or disregards its internal dispute resolution mechanisms. According to the ward executives, members had been previously cautioned against taking unilateral actions that could compromise the party’s standing, a warning they claim Dagogo willfully ignored.
