National Secretariat Validates Local Disciplinary Actions

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress has formally addressed the internal friction within its Rivers State chapter following the suspension of party chieftain Fubara Dagogo. Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television on Friday, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, emphasized that the party’s constitution is unambiguous regarding the conduct of its members. The suspension, which originated from the executive committee of Ward 4 in the Bonny Local Government Area, is being framed by the national office as a necessary enforcement of party discipline. Morka suggested that the move serves as a deterrent to others who might consider challenging the party’s administrative decisions through external litigation.

Litigation Over Convention Nominations Triggers Crisis

The conflict reached a tipping point after Dagogo initiated legal proceedings against the APC concerning the upcoming national convention. The embattled chieftain alleged that despite paying N5.1 million for a nomination form, the party leadership failed to provide the essential documentation required to formalize his candidacy. This public legal challenge was interpreted by ward executives as a direct act of anti-party activity. By taking the matter to court, Dagogo bypassed the structured grievance channels established by the party, a move that Morka noted is often viewed as a breach of the foundational loyalty expected from high ranking members.

Constitutional Mandates on Internal Reconciliation

According to the APC’s national spokesperson, the party’s governing document mandates that all members must exhaust internal reconciliation mechanisms before seeking redress in a court of law. Morka warned that the consequences for ignoring these protocols extend far beyond temporary disciplinary measures. He stated that the act of initiating a lawsuit against the party prior to exploring these internal avenues could lead to total expulsion from the organization. This hardline stance is intended to preserve the party’s autonomy and prevent judicial interference in what the leadership considers to be private administrative matters.
