Judicial Invalidation Triggers Emergency Leadership Transition in the PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has entered a state of constitutional restructuring after the Supreme Court delivered a verdict that effectively dismantled its current executive hierarchy. Hours after the ruling, the Adolphus Wabara led Board of Trustees formally assumed duty at the party’s national level in Abuja. Wabara stated that this intervention is a direct application of the PDP Constitution 2017, intended to provide stability following the court's invalidation of the leadership produced during the November 2025 National Convention in Ibadan.

Supreme Court Voids Previous Conventions and Executive Appointments

The crisis within the main opposition party deepened as the apex court pronounced the 15th to 16th November 2025 National Convention held in Oyo State as invalid. This ruling specifically dismantled the National Working Committee previously led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki. Furthermore, the five justices on the panel unanimously upheld the suspension of high ranking officials, including Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, and Kamaldeen Ajibade, stripping them of their roles as National Secretary, National Organising Secretary, and National Legal Adviser.

Nullification of Recent Abuja Convention and Acting Appointments

In a sweeping legal clarification, Adolphus Wabara explained that the court’s decision renders all subsequent actions by the suspended officials illegal and void from the outset. This includes the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman and the entire composition of the National Caretaker Working Committee. Crucially, the outcome of the March 29, 2026, Convention held in Abuja has also been declared null, leaving the party without a legally recognized executive management team until the BoT intervention.
