Arrest and Charges

The police investigation into the "unexplained" deaths on York Street escalated quickly following the discovery of the bodies at 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Detective Inspector Stephen Ambler, the Field Crime Manager, confirmed that a 34-year-old male was arrested and has been officially charged with two counts of murder.

The breakthrough in the case occurred later Thursday evening when the suspect arrived at a hospital seeking treatment for injuries. Officers were able to connect the man to the York Street property, leading to his immediate arrest. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Hamilton District Court on Saturday, April 4.

Scene Examination and Public Safety

Cordons remain in place at the York Street property as forensic teams continue a meticulous scene examination. While the identities of the victims have not yet been formally released, police are working to notify the next of kin and piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.

In a statement aimed at calming local residents, Detective Inspector Ambler emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the community. "Police would like to reassure the community that this was an isolated incident, and we are not looking for anyone else in relation to the matter," he said.
