A Strategic Export of Combat Intelligence

In an unprecedented move that shifts Ukraine from a recipient of security to a provider of global defense expertise, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that over 200 Ukrainian military specialists are now active in the Middle East. These experts, who have spent years neutralizing Iranian-designed Shahed drones on the Eastern Front, are currently embedded with partner forces in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. A further 34 specialists are on standby for immediate deployment to Kuwait as part of a series of newly concluded bilateral security agreements aimed at stabilizing the Persian Gulf against aerial incursions.

The Drone Deal with the United States

This regional deployment is a core component of a broader "drone deal" proposed by Kyiv to the United States government. Zelenskyy informed the British Parliament that the mission was initiated at the specific request of Washington and other key allies who seek to leverage Ukraine’s unique, high-intensity experience with autonomous warfare. By providing hands-on training and technical oversight, the Ukrainian teams are helping to integrate battle-proven interception protocols into the existing defense architectures of Gulf nations, creating a unified front against the "brothers in hatred" alliance between Moscow and Tehran.

Cost-Effective Interception in a New Era of Warfare

A primary focus of the Ukrainian mission is the implementation of defensive systems that are significantly more cost-effective than traditional Western surface-to-air missiles. Zelenskyy highlighted that while mass drone attacks no longer require the multi-billion dollar budgets of traditional state-based militaries, the cost to intercept them often remains prohibitively high for many nations. Ukraine’s solution involves the use of specialized, low-cost interceptors and electronic warfare tactics that can neutralize a swarm of drones for a fraction of the price of a single Patriot or IRIS-T missile, effectively democratizing high-level security for regional partners.
