Ethnic Youth Blocs Protest Political Imbalance in Southern Kaduna
A coalition of youth leaders representing the Bajju, Atyap, Ikulu, and Kamantan ethnic nationalities has formally appealed to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani to address a growing political dispute in the Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency. During a press conference in Kaduna, the groups expressed concern that a perceived political injustice is threatening the democratic stability of the region as the 2027 election cycle approaches. According to Comrade Ezekiel Samaila, National Chairman of the Anghan Youth Development Association, the current representative from Jaba Local Government Area will have completed eight years by the end of this term, making it the rightful turn of Zangon Kataf to occupy the seat.
Disparity in Voter Strength Fuels Demands for Exclusive Zoning
The push for a power shift is backed by stark demographic data provided by the youth groups to justify their claim for the House of Representatives seat. The Zangon Kataf Local Government Area currently lists 180,998 registered voters, a figure that is nearly triple the 66,948 registered voters found in Jaba Local Government Area. The youth leaders argued that it is fundamentally disrespectful for aspirants from a smaller electorate to seek another term when the majority has remained patient and cooperative. According to the coalition, the massive voting strength of Zangon Kataf serves as the backbone of the constituency and should be reflected in the leadership selection process.
The Erosion of Traditional Rotation Agreements
Historically, political stability in this specific federal constituency has relied on a gentleman's agreement involving a two-term rotation between the two local government areas. The youth presidents noted that Hon. Amos Magaji, the current representative from Jaba, initially contested in 2018 even when the rotation cycle technically favored Zangon Kataf. Having allowed the current tenure to proceed for two full terms, the youth leaders insist that the spirit of equity now demands an immediate return of the mandate to their district. They warned that jettisoning this established internal agreement would be viewed as a calculated act of political mischief.
