Committee Report Cites Disregard for Oversight Protocols

The suspension followed the formal presentation of a detailed report by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Delivered by Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu Gumm, who also serves as the committee’s vice chairman, the report highlighted significant gaps in financial reporting. The investigation focused on the management of public funds across the state, with the committee identifying these specific councils as failing to provide necessary documentation regarding their 2025 fiscal activities.

Failure to Honor Summons Leads to Immediate Sanctions

House spokesperson Bello Kurya explained that the primary catalyst for the suspension was the chairmen's repeated refusal to honor official invitations. According to Kurya, the committee issued multiple summons to allow the officials to clarify specific expenditure patterns within their respective councils. The Assembly interpreted their continued absence as a serious violation and a direct sign of disregard for legislative authority, prompting the Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki, to preside over the adoption of the suspension recommendation.
