A Floating Fortress for Conservation
Built in Orange, Texas, over 80 years ago, the MODOC was acquired by Earthrace Conservation in 2019. Under the leadership of New Zealander Pete Bethune, the ship has been transformed into a high-tech platform for anti-poaching operations. Bethune, a veteran of high-seas activism, has shifted his focus from Antarctic whaling to supporting Costa Rican authorities in their struggle against illegal fishing, poaching, and illegal mining.
The MODOC’s primary areas of operation include:
Isla del Caño
Corcovado National Park
Santa Rosa National Park
