Arrest in Pitt County

A North Carolina man is facing a series of severe legal challenges following his arrest by Winterville police officers. Michael Manning, 49, was taken into custody on Tuesday as part of a targeted investigation into the exploitation of minors. The arrest took place without incident in Winterville, and Manning was subsequently transported to the Pitt County Jail, where he is currently being held under a "no bond" status pending his preliminary hearing.

Nature of the Allegations

According to court documents and arrest warrants, the charges stem from an incident recorded on February 1. Investigators allege that Manning was in possession of several videos depicting young boys, estimated to be between the ages of five and twelve, engaged in prohibited sexual activities. The discovery of this material led to the filing of ten separate counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, a high-level felony in the state of North Carolina.

Judicial Proceedings and Prosecution

Manning is scheduled to make his first appearance in a Pitt County courtroom today, Wednesday, March 18. During this initial hearing, a judge is expected to formalize the charges and determine whether the "no bond" status will remain in place given the nature of the offenses. The Pitt County District Attorney’s office has indicated that it is working closely with digital forensics experts to review any additional hardware seized during the arrest to determine if further charges are warranted.
