Historic Profitability Momentum and Core Income Growth

Wema Bank Plc has delivered its strongest financial results to date, reporting a profit before tax of N221.85 billion for the 2025 financial year. This represents a 116% increase from the N102.51 billion recorded in 2024. The bank's profit after tax saw an even sharper rise, growing by 125.36% to reach N194.46 billion. Managing Director Moruf Oseni attributed this performance to a disciplined execution of the bank's business model and a steady growth in core income streams, marking a significant leap from the N14.75 billion profit recorded just three years prior.

Balance Sheet Expansion and Asset Performance

The bank’s total assets expanded significantly in 2025, rising 41.48% to N5.07 trillion, up from N3.59 trillion the previous year. This growth was supported by a 30.34% increase in customer deposits, which now stand at N3.29 trillion. On the lending side, net loans rose by 44.68% to N1.74 trillion, reflecting the bank's increased capacity to support the real economy. Shareholders’ funds also saw a massive boost, increasing by 141.95% to N620.47 billion, strengthening the bank's capital buffer and long-term stability.

Revenue Drivers and Operational Efficiency

Gross earnings for the year reached N660.59 billion, a 52.79% increase from the previous year. Interest income played a pivotal role, growing by 62.72% to N575.27 billion. Notably, net interest income more than doubled, rising by 103.91% to N361.01 billion. Wema Bank also demonstrated improved operational efficiency; while operating expenses rose by 50.96% to N198.79 billion, the bank's cost-to-income ratio improved significantly, dropping to 47.26% from 56.23% in 2024.
