Operational Transition to the New Capital

The administrative heart of the Indonesian executive branch has begun its physical migration to East Kalimantan, with the arrival of a pioneering team of 50 staff members attached to the Vice President. Basuki Hadimuljono, Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), confirmed on Monday that these officials are currently establishing the administrative framework at the Vice Presidential Palace. This advance team is responsible for setting up the essential bureaucracy required to support Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s permanent transition to the new seat of government.

Acceleration of the Government Core Area

During a recent visit to the Governor’s Office in Samarinda, Hadimuljono detailed the technical progress within the Government Core Area, known locally as KIPP. The OIKN is currently overseeing a synchronized construction effort that spans executive, legislative, and judicial facilities to ensure the infrastructure can support a full administrative transfer. This development phase is designed to meet the rigorous road map established in 2022, focusing on creating a functional urban center that can host the highest levels of national governance.

Legislative and Judicial Infrastructure Milestones

The development of the House of Representatives buildings and specialized judicial facilities remains a primary focus of the 2026 construction cycle. According to recent government targets, these complexes are slated for completion by 2027 at the earliest, providing the necessary facilities for the legislative and judicial branches to operate outside of Jakarta. Vice President Gibran’s late 2025 inspection of these sites reinforced the administration's intent to designate Nusantara as the nation's singular political capital by 2028.
