A Visionary Blueprint for the New Tashkent Expansion
The architectural and social future of Uzbekistan took a significant step forward as President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the finalized plans for the New Tashkent territory. This ambitious urban development begins with an initial construction phase covering 6,000 hectares, designed specifically to establish a modern infrastructure capable of supporting 600,000 early residents. As the project matures, officials estimate the city will eventually accommodate a population of two million, effectively creating a massive secondary urban center to alleviate the density of the existing capital.
Reimagining the Historic Trade Route Through Modern Architecture
At the heart of this new metropolitan area lies the Great Silk Road complex, a 32 hectare specialized district intended to blend cultural heritage with contemporary living. According to the project presentation, this site is envisioned as a central public square that integrates residential buildings with high end hotels and commercial spaces. The design philosophy centers on the creation of thematic districts, or mahallas, where each section of the complex will architecturally mirror the distinct civilizations and countries that historically flourished along the ancient Silk Road route.
Institutional Support for Cultural and Educational Growth
The administrative focus extends beyond mere housing, with a significant portion of the development dedicated to educational and innovative infrastructure. The plan includes the state backed renovation and expansion of several critical institutions, such as the Imam Maturidi complex and the Bahauddin Naqshbandi scientific and innovation museum. By anchoring the Great Silk Road complex with these cultural landmarks, the Uzbek government seeks to provide a localized environment for research while simultaneously preserving the historical narrative of the region for future generations.
