Systematic Destruction of Transport Corridors
Iranian state media reported extensive damage to the nation’s core transit networks following a coordinated series of aerial bombardments by US and Israeli forces on April 7, 2026. Major infrastructure targets included a bridge near the holy city of Qom and a railway overpass in the central city of Kashan. According to Akbar Salehi, a senior regional security official, the strikes in Kashan resulted in at least two fatalities and three injuries. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards confirmed via social media that the precision strikes were designed to sever key logistics links, effectively compartmentalizing different regions of the country as the conflict escalates.
Tehran and Tabriz Cut Off by Strategic Hits
The capital city of Tehran faced significant disruption as airstrikes targeted the vital northern highway connecting it to Tabriz. Officials from the IRNA news agency confirmed that a hit on an overpass approximately 90 kilometers outside of Tabriz forced the immediate closure of the route. Simultaneously, the Mizan news agency reported that railway tracks in Karaj, a major suburb of Tehran, were destroyed. Images released by the Red Crescent showed rescuers operating amidst the wreckage to evacuate the wounded, while all train services to and from Mashhad, Iran’s second-largest city, were suspended following a direct warning from the Israeli military.
Energy Infrastructure and Widespread Blackouts
Beyond transportation, the strikes successfully neutralized several critical energy nodes. The ISNA news agency reported that power transmission lines and a primary substation were knocked out of service in the cities of Karaj and Fardis. These targeted hits resulted in immediate and widespread power outages across the densely populated areas surrounding the capital. The Israeli military confirmed it had completed a "broad wave" of operations against infrastructure sites, characterizing the targets as essential to the Iranian regime’s operational capacity, though they declined to provide a specific list of the facilities destroyed.
