Strategic Leadership for Next Generation Energy Safety
The transition to a global clean energy economy has placed unprecedented demand on battery safety research and the development of robust electrochemical standards. In response to these evolving challenges, UL Research Institutes has appointed Dr. Judy Jeevarajan to the newly created role of vice president and distinguished scientific advisor. Reporting directly to Chief Research Officer Chris Cramer, Ph.D., Dr. Jeevarajan is tasked with shaping the organization’s long term scientific priorities. According to the announcement, this leadership expansion is designed to bolster the institute’s ability to connect rigorous laboratory research with real world safety impacts across the energy sector.
Transitioning the Electrochemical Safety Research Institute
While Dr. Jeevarajan moves into her expanded role, she will continue to serve as the executive director of the Electrochemical Safety Research Institute until a successor is identified. UL Research Institutes has officially initiated a search for a new leader to oversee the institute’s daily operations and technical testing programs. According to Cramer, Dr. Jeevarajan’s transition into a broader advisory capacity allows her to mentor the next generation of safety scientists while maintaining her influence over the high profile battery and energy storage safety initiatives that have defined her career at ULRI.
Thirty Years of Expertise in Lithium Ion Technologies
Dr. Jeevarajan enters this vice presidency with a distinguished professional history spanning more than three decades in the field of battery chemistry. Her widely recognized focus on lithium ion technologies has made her a primary voice in improving the reliability of global energy storage systems. According to ULRI, her technical rigor has been instrumental in addressing the emerging risks associated with new energy sources, including hydrogen. Throughout her tenure, she has contributed to over 250 presentations and multiple book chapters, advocating for evidence based policy and stronger system level protections in battery manufacturing.
