The Restoration of a Modern Classic Circuit
The Turkish Grand Prix is set to reclaim its place as a permanent fixture on the Formula 1 schedule starting in 2027. Following a successful negotiation between Formula One Management (FOM) and local organizers, a five-year contract was signed to bring the sport back to the challenging Istanbul Park layout. The circuit, renowned for its quadruple-apex Turn 8, last appeared as a replacement venue during the pandemic-affected 2020 and 2021 seasons. This new agreement ensures that the venue, which first joined the grid in 2005, will provide a long-term presence in the region through at least 2031.
Audi Stabilizes Leadership with Internal Promotion
Audi’s transition into a full works outfit has taken a significant step forward with the appointment of Allan McNish as Racing Director. The move follows the departure of former team principal Jonathan Wheatley and serves to support Mattia Binotto, who recently assumed primary leadership duties. McNish, a brand stalwart and former Toyota F1 racer, will transition from his role heading the driver development program to overseeing trackside operations. His deep familiarity with the Audi ecosystem is expected to provide much-needed continuity as the team prepares for its high-stakes entry into the sport.
Reflections on a Missed Red Bull Opportunity
Colton Herta has opened up about the collapse of a potential 2023 move to the Red Bull family, specifically with the AlphaTauri squad. In a recent podcast appearance, Herta described the negotiations as "very real," noting that the prospect of joining the grid was a tangible goal before FIA Super Licence restrictions intervened. Despite the disappointment of that failed transition, the 26-year-old American has shifted his focus to a multi-faceted 2026 campaign. He is currently navigating his rookie season in Formula 2 with Hitech while simultaneously serving as a test driver for the newly formed Cadillac Formula 1 Team.
