Suspect Returned To Zachary Following Oklahoma Manhunt
The Zachary Police Department has successfully returned a 38 year old truck driver to Louisiana to face charges related to the abduction of a local teenager. Michael Jay was escorted to jail around midnight Thursday after a long transport from Oklahoma. The suspect's return marks the conclusion of a rapid multi-state investigation that began Monday night when the victim was first reported missing from her residence on Munson Road.
Digital Forensics Lead To Discovery At Love’s Truck Stop
The breakthrough in the case came through the monitoring of online communications and mobile phone data. Detectives were able to ping a phone after identifying who the victim had been speaking with shortly before her disappearance. This digital trail led authorities in Oklahoma to a Love’s Truck Stop on Tuesday night, where they discovered Jay and the minor together in the facility's shower area. The suspect was immediately detained and held in Oklahoma until he waived his right to an extradition hearing earlier this week.
Serious Felony Charges Filed In Kidnapping Case
Now in the custody of Louisiana authorities, Jay faces a litany of charges including simple kidnapping, contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, and indecent behavior with juveniles. According to legal experts, simple kidnapping of a minor in Louisiana can carry a sentence of up to five years in prison, while charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile are often met with significantly harsher penalties depending on the age of the victim and the nature of the contact.
