Midnight Ambush at a Celebration of Life

What was meant to be a joyous wedding celebration in Kahir village, Kagarko LGA, was violently interrupted late Sunday night, March 29, 2026. At approximately 11:47 PM, a large group of bandits armed with AK-47 rifles descended upon the community. Eyewitnesses report that the assailants stormed the wedding hall and opened fire indiscriminately on the gathered guests. The suddenness of the attack threw the village into an immediate state of pandemonium, with many attendees forced to flee into the surrounding bushes to escape the hail of bullets.

Heavy Casualties and Ongoing Abduction Fears

The death toll from the attack has been confirmed at 13 individuals, all of whom were guests at the wedding. A local community leader provided the names of the victims, which include Bako Danjuma, Williams Luka, and Joseph Yakubu, among others. In addition to those killed, several others sustained severe gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at Kagarko General Hospital and specialist facilities in Kaduna. While the fatalities are confirmed, the number of guests kidnapped remains unknown. Residents noted that the chaos of the sporadic shooting made it impossible to track how many people were led away into the forest by the gunmen.

An Hour of Unchallenged Terror and Looting

According to local reports, the bandits operated with chilling impunity for nearly an hour. Beyond the primary attack on the wedding hall, the gunmen systematically looted local businesses. Shops were emptied of food items and provisions, and a local chemist was raided for medical supplies. The lack of an immediate security response allowed the group to cart away significant quantities of goods before retreating into the wilderness. This "scorched earth" tactic of combining mass casualty events with the looting of essential supplies has become a hallmark of bandit activity in the region.
