Intentionality Drives High Value Transactions
A significant shift in consumer behavior defined the digital retail landscape in 2025. Shoppers became increasingly selective, with email click through rates falling by 33 percent. However, when consumers did engage with a brand, they were much more likely to complete a purchase. Data reveals that the average order value rose from 149 dollars to 182 dollars, representing a 22 percent increase as quality interactions replaced raw traffic volume.
This trend toward intentional shopping indicates that buyers are moving away from impulse purchases. Instead, they are focusing on specific goals and pre buying goods to hedge against potential price increases caused by logistical bottlenecks and evolving trade policies. Industry experts suggest that while clicks are harder to earn, each successful interaction now carries substantially more financial weight for the merchant.
Automation and Real Time Responsiveness
The disparity between top tier brands and the rest of the market was largely driven by the effective use of marketing automation. Brands that utilized behavior based messaging captured 25 percent of total email revenue despite these messages accounting for only 1.7 percent of total sends. Automated outreach consistently outperformed scheduled campaigns because it responded directly to user intent at the exact moment of interest.
Conversion efficiency across various channels highlighted the power of these automated systems:
