Coordinated Detonations Target Public Areas in the Capital
Iranian state media has confirmed that two improvised explosive devices were detonated in Tehran during the early hours of Wednesday morning. According to reports from the Islamic Republic News Agency, the devices were remotely operated, suggesting a level of technical coordination by the perpetrators. The explosions occurred in public spaces, marking a breach of urban security during a period of high regional tension. A Revolutionary Guard security source stated that a third explosive device was discovered and defused by bomb disposal units shortly after the initial blasts.
Casualties and Damage Assessment Following the Blasts
The dual explosions resulted in slight injuries to three people who were in the vicinity of the devices. Among the wounded was a member of the Basij, the all-volunteer paramilitary force that operates under the Revolutionary Guard and remains a key pillar of support for the current government. Military officials have downplayed the severity of the casualties, noting that there were no fatalities and that the physical damage to the surrounding street infrastructure was limited in scope.
Security Command Claims Normalcy Restored in Tehran
In the aftermath of the detonations, Mohammad Balideh, a Revolutionary Guard commander for Tehran’s region 10, issued a statement to the Hamshahri newspaper to reassure the public. Balideh asserted that the situation has returned to normal and remains under the full control of state security apparatuses. He described the events as a restricted incident and emphasized that the city’s routine has not been significantly altered by the morning's violence.
